Unlike copper based solutions, optical sensing transforms the whole cable into a continuous sensor, from end termination – often with a pressure temperature gauge – the wellhead.  The cable is the ‘toolbox’ consisting of many fibres which can be addressed to bring a variety of data sets for analysis without disturbance of the wellbore as with conventional tooling.
